AMDG Choir  (AMDG聖詠團)

Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam Choir(為更大的天主光榮)

The AMDG Choir is the dedicated church choir serving the 11:30 AM English Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Guting, Taipei. Comprising members from around the world—many of whom are students or professionals living in Taipei—the choir forms a vibrant part of the church’s international community.

The choir traces its roots back to 1980, when the English Mass was first introduced at Sacred Heart. Under the guidance of Lourdes Dayon, and later Agosh L. Librea, the choir began its mission of leading parishioners in worship through song. In 2013, under the leadership of Michael and Irene, and with the support of Fathers Felipe Bacalso and Wilfred Chan, the group became known as the Magnificat Choir.

In 2016, the choir was renamed Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam—“For the Greater Glory of God”—or simply, AMDG Choir. Since then, it has been led by Austin Wang (王祈博), who also serves as the organist, alongside Camila Chen (陳康淳). The late Benedicte Chang (張玫 +) conducted the choir until her passing in 2022. Her legacy is carried forward by current music director and conductor Cherly Susanti (cherlydai.com), with vocal coaching provided by Alexandra Katya (alexandrakatya.com). The choir is also supported musically by Enzo Librizzi on piano and Leo Lin on guitar.

In addition to serving at Mass, the AMDG Choir hosts an annual vocal recital in the first half of the year and a Christmas concert each December. Internally, the choir holds music theory sessions and vocal training programs to continually develop the musical talents of its members—both as individuals and as a unified choir dedicated to praising God through music.

AMDG Choir is the church choir that serves at the 11:30 AM English Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Guting, Taipei. The choir members come from all over the world, many of whom are international students or workers in Taipei, forming a vibrant international faith community.

The history of the choir can be traced back to 1980 when the English Mass was offered at Sacred Heart Church. It was founded under the leadership of Lourdes Dayon and later taken over by Agosh L. Librea, who began to lead the faithful in praising God with hymns during the Mass. In 2013, under the leadership of Michael and Irene, and with the pastoral support of Fathers Bacalso and Chen Wei-lok, the choir was renamed the Magnificat Choir.

In 2016, the choir was renamed Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam, which means "For the Greater Glory of God", or AMDG Choir. Since then, Austin Wang has served as the conductor and organist, and Camila Chen has led it. After the former conductor Benedicte Chang passed away in 2022, the current music director and conductor Cherly Susanti (cherlydai.com) took over, and the vocal coach was Alexandra Katya (alexandrakatya.com). Meanwhile, Enzo Librizzi is responsible for piano and Leo Lin plays guitar.

In addition to mass services, the AMDG Choir holds vocal performances in the first half of each year and Christmas concerts in December. The choir also regularly holds music theory courses and vocal training to help members continue to grow in personal skills and teamwork, and to dedicate music to God and glorify His name.
